Gracefield School ‘I Matter’ Holiday Season Initiatives 2020

Dear Gracefield Community,

This is the time of year when Gracefield School and our community come together to help people in need. Unfortunately, the current conditions are preventing the students, staff, and volunteers from delivering and collecting bags through our annual door to door initiative. In lieu of the door to door campaign, we have joined with Community Care and set up a donation form specifically for the Gracefield Community. The link will provide the opportunity for our generous community members to donate much needed funds to Community Care for the purchase of food items for families in need this holiday season.

We have two amazing holiday season initiatives (see below) planned for the next couple of weeks.

Initiative #1 - Community Care Donation Initiative

A Message from Community Care: The 2020 holiday season is indeed going to be very different from holiday seasons in the past. Our community has never faced the uncertainty we are facing today. That is why your donation to Community Care is so important. Households who were already struggling daily will be at even greater risk and the number of households that are new to the food bank are starting to increase. While demand on Community Care has increased, so has the support from people like you. Community Care has been working diligently to ensure no one is denied the special feeling the holiday season brings. Recognizing that we must ensure the health and safety of all including, staff, volunteers, donors and clients, our Community Care’s program delivery has been altered, but the true spirit in which the programs are delivered has not changed. This year, spreading hope and joy is more important than ever.

For every dollar donated, Community Care can stretch that donation to 3 or 4 times the value thanks to buying power and charitable partnerships.

When you donate $10 or more through Community Care’s secure online portal, you will receive a tax receipt right away. If you have any questions, please call Community Care at 905.685.1349. Thank you.

Please share the link with family, friends, and neighbours.

Initiative #2 - Get in the Spirit of Giving - Gift Cards Donation to Students of a Nearby DSBN School

The Gracefield School community would like to do what we can to help those families in the St. Catharines area who are in need this holiday season. Every year at a nearby DSBN School, several parents/guardians are unable to give their children a merry holiday season. Due to various circumstances, these parents are unable to afford clothing, presents, and/or food for their families. This year they have 125 students who will not have a merry holiday season without help. Along with our annual Community Care Initiative taking place in our community, our school has another opportunity to demonstrate that Gracefield matters as a community member by making the holidays a little bit brighter for a number of local DSBN children. Gift Cards for the campaign will be accepted at the office until December 11th. We know that in the past, our Gracefield families have been very supportive and generous when it comes to helping others. We want to thank you in advance for your support of these caring and sharing initiatives.

The nearby DSBN School would appreciate any assistance you, your friends, or your businesses would be willing to give. Gift card donations (see below for suggestions of stores) in various denominations ($10, $15, $25 amounts) would be best. They will be able to make sure all of their needy students have a very, merry holiday season! Gift card donations to Walmart, Chapters, Sportchek, Toys ‘R’ Us, Landmark Cinemas, etc. would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time and your continued generosity.
